Recognizing the importance of accessible digital services, Nassau County, FL launched a comprehensive website modernization initiative in 2025 to improve how residents access government information and services online. Built on the CivicPlus® platform, the project combined a full website redesign with a countywide effort to strengthen digital accessibility, improve website governance, and establish sustainable content management practices.

The initiative focused on creating a more intuitive and inclusive online experience. County staff remediated inaccessible webpages and documents, improved website navigation and structure, reduced broken links and accessibility issues, and implemented stronger digital content standards across departments. Nassau County also adopted DocAccess to streamline document accessibility and Acquia Web Governance to support ongoing website quality, accessibility monitoring, and long-term compliance efforts. Through continuous website remediation, the County improved its accessibility performance while creating a stronger foundation for compliance.

The project was a collaborative effort involving county departments, departmental website administrators, CivicPlus representatives, and internal leadership. Together, they coordinated the website’s redesign, shared accessibility best practices, and established governance procedures that will help maintain an accessible and user-friendly digital experience well into the future.

Beyond the technology, Nassau County invested in building a culture of accessibility. Staff across departments received training and guidance on accessible content creation, document formatting, image standards, and website governance, helping make accessibility a shared responsibility rather than a standalone technical function.

Today, residents benefit from a modern, mobile-responsive website that makes it easier to locate county services, access forms and emergency preparedness resources, and find essential information online. By proactively strengthening accessibility ahead of evolving federal ADA requirements, Nassau County has improved equitable access to government services while creating a sustainable framework for digital accessibility and governance that will serve residents for years to come.
