MANHATTAN, KS – November 10, 2025 – The City of Athens, Alabama, has unveiled its newly redesigned municipal website in partnership with CivicPlus®, marking the next step in its long-term commitment to accessible, resident-focused digital government. After partnering with CivicPlus in 2011 to undergo its initial website redesign, Athens has been committed to continuing modernization efforts to better align with resident needs.

Through modernized services and design, the site now has more end-to-end functionality for greater visibility and usage. The updated website features include:

  • Data-informed design: By incorporating community feedback and analytics, the City introduced a modern design and layout with direct navigation to popular services and topics.
  • Improved resources: The CivicPlus Chatbot can now help residents locate information faster, answer common questions, and direct them to resources and departments more effectively.
  • Streamlined usability: With icon-based navigation, residents can quickly access services such as utilities, sanitation, and Athens Park and Recreation information. The website also includes more engaging features, such as an interactive community calendar.

“By listening to our community’s feedback, our updated website is built around the residents, offering more modern designs and technology to better engage our city,” said Athens Mayor William R. “Ronnie” Marks. “Our partnership with CivicPlus has allowed us to streamline navigation, increase real-time communication, and create an experience that truly meets the needs of our residents.”

“Athens demonstrates what continuous improvement looks like in digital government,” said CivicPlus Vice President of Product, Julie Sargent. “As a long-time partner for 14 years, their ongoing focus on accessibility, feedback, and self-service tools showcases a true commitment to using technology to strengthen civic connection and continually modernize resident services.”

A key part of the integration success was ensuring the City staff had access to flexible, hands-on training to help departments manage their own pages. Training is critical for ensuring sustainable success of website redesigns, and the updated Athens website now delivers a more modern and connected online experience for both its residents and staff.
